Diogo Jota has expressed his respect for Jurgen Klopp’s decision to take on a new role with Red Bull, despite the controversy surrounding it.
The Liverpool forward chose not to engage in any disputes related to his former manager’s return to football, opting instead to support Klopp’s choice without commenting specifically on the position itself.
Jota is the first player from Klopp’s previous club, Borussia Dortmund, to publicly back his decision this week.
Several figures associated with Dortmund have claimed that Klopp is now “dead to them” following his career move.
Klopp stated that his role with Red Bull provides “the perfect platform” for him to return to football and continue learning about the game.
However, his decision has sparked controversy among German football fans, particularly due to Red Bull’s circumvention of ownership rules – something Klopp had previously criticised.
Jota told Record in Portugal: “Klopp?
“He’s a person I have a lot of affection for, we have to respect his decision.
“I wish him the best of luck in this new stage.”
Liverpool will return to action after the international break by hosting Chelsea next Sunday.
Currently, the Reds sit atop the Premier League, remaining undefeated and having conceded just twice in their opening seven matches.
Meanwhile, Diogo Jota is set to face Poland and Scotland for Portugal in the Nations League over the coming days.
