Scott McTominay has been in exceptional form since his summer transfer from Manchester United to Napoli, leading to some bold comments from Paolo Di Canio.

The Scotland international finalized a move to Napoli for €30.5million (£25.7million) after Manchester United decided to part ways with him during the summer transfer window.

Since joining Antonio Conte’s side, McTominay has quickly become a standout performer, scoring two goals and providing an assist in his last three appearances.

In stark contrast, Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United has faced significant challenges this season, currently winless in their last five matches and managing only three victories in their opening eleven games.

The Red Devils have struggled in midfield, with Casemiro’s form declining and new signing Manuel Ugarte – seen as McTominay’s replacement – struggling to adapt at Old Trafford.

In light of these difficulties, Di Canio has suggested that Manchester United’s directors should be held accountable for allowing Scott McTominay to leave the club.

Currently, McTominay is with the Scotland national team, preparing for their upcoming matches against Croatia on Saturday, October 12, and Portugal on October 15.

Speaking to Il Mattino, Di Canio said: “I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors: but how can you give McTominay away?

“There is someone like [David] Neres who is a reserve.

“[Billy] Gilmour at Brighton has shown that he has the same characteristics of coming out with the ball at his feet and lucidity as [Stanislav] Lobotka.”
