Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been released early from their international duties during the October international break.

Salah scored for Egypt in a 2-0 victory over Mauritania in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Friday night.

He was originally scheduled to participate in a second match against the same opponents on Tuesday.

Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s technical director, publicly extended this offer to the Liverpool star, expressing worries that Mohamed Salah could be at risk of injury if he participates in the match.

He said: “If any player asks me not to play on artificial turf, I will agree.

“The Mauritanian team plays hard and with violent interventions, and their field is not the best.

“If Salah specifically asks me to do so, I will agree.”

Hassan added: “I was very worried about the Mauritania match, and the pitch there is very difficult.

“Even if I don’t win there, it doesn’t matter.

“What matters to me is that I don’t lose.”

Egypt are firmly in control of Group C, having won all three of their opening AFCON qualifiers without conceding a goal.

Currently, there has been no confirmation regarding Mohamed Salah’s availability for the upcoming match.

Meanwhile, van Dijk was sent off while playing for the Netherlands on Friday, receiving two yellow cards in quick succession during the second half of a 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw with Hungary.

This dismissal rules him out of Monday’s match against Germany.

“[The red card] is a bummer and should not have happened. But I’m especially angry about the first,” Van Dijk told ESPN Netherlands after the game.

“They say the captain is the only one who can talk to the referee. I walk up to him…

“Up tempo, but not in a nasty way, not at all.

“Very respectful, because I felt it was a breakaway player, he did not go for the ball at all.

“If even the captain cannot say anything, then it can get difficult.”

As a result, both players will not take part in any further activities with their national teams this month, following the decision to relieve them of their respective commitments.
