Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has shared insights into the multifaceted character of Pep Guardiola, describing him as nice, angry, and even annoying at times.

While on international duty, the 31-year-old was asked by a young fan during a Children’s Day event in Brazil to characterize Guardiola using those three adjectives.

With a laugh, Ederson responded, “You’re going to get me in trouble! He’s all three.”

The goalkeeper has experienced a range of animated reactions from Guardiola, whether celebrating match-winning saves, witnessing incredible long passes, or enduring tense moments during take-ons against strikers.

Together, they have enjoyed remarkable success at the Etihad Stadium, winning 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League.

Expanding on the persona of the highly respected coach, Ederson elaborated: “He’s a nice guy, he’s sometimes annoying, in the sense of [being] demanding, because he has to [be] demanding to a professional [player], and he’s also angry when he has to be angry.

“So he has a mixture of all three.

“But he’s a nice guy off the pitch, and he’s a very, very demanding guy on it.

“And he’s also a guy who gets angry like any other person – like any other coach – when things don’t go well and when the team doesn’t play well.

“Of course, we know that we’re not going to be able to play 70 games at a brilliant level. In one game or another, there’s going to be a dip, of course.”

Many believe that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has transformed the landscape of domestic football.

Players from grassroots levels to the Premier League are now encouraged to prioritise possession and keep the ball on the ground at all costs.

Ederson has expressed that he feels “honoured” to be a part of this significant revolution at City.

“I’ve been able to play a big part in the project,” he added to ESPN Brasil.

“You take everything Pep Guardiola has built up with the group, with the squad and everything he’s been able to reformulate practically.

“You see every Premier League game today, how the teams try to play more football, have more possession, it’s completely different from when he arrived.”

The goalkeeper continued: “So to be able to be part of this project and achieve everything I’ve achieved, I feel very honoured, it really is a childhood dream.”
