Liverpool are on the verge of finalising a significant addition to Arne Slot’s backroom team.
The Dutch manager has already brought in several former colleagues from his Feyenoord days, including his assistant Sipke Hulshoff and the Reds’ lead physical performance coach, Ruben Peeters.
It’s evident that Slot prefers to work with personnel he trusts and has an established rapport with, a common practice among managers – Jurgen Klopp also recruited his own staff when he first joined the club.
Now, it appears Slot is poised to add another key figure from Feyenoord to the Anfield boot room.
According to Dutch publication 1908.nl, Slot is set to appoint Roderick van der Ham, Feyenoord’s video analyst, to the Liverpool coaching staff.
The Liverpool head coach worked alongside Van der Ham for over 95 matches during their time together at Feyenoord before Slot’s departure for Anfield this summer.
Van der Ham has amassed a wealth of experience, having taken on various roles in football since he was 18
The 33-year-old has previously served as a video analyst for the Dutch U19 national team and has worked with RKC Waalwijk and Heracles in the Dutch first and second tiers.
Earlier in his career, he even held a position as a fitness coach at NAC Breda.
While it remains unclear what specific role Van der Ham will occupy at Liverpool, it is reasonable to assume he will take on the same responsibilities he had under Slot at Feyenoord.
His Instagram activity also suggests he has some familiarity with English football, as he shared that he visited Manchester City’s campus back in 2018.
Given his ambition and drive at this young age, Van der Ham appears to be precisely the type of talent Liverpool needs in its staff.
Slot’s strong endorsement of Van der Ham underscores the belief in his capabilities, making this potential appointment an exciting prospect for the club.
