Lionel Messi not thinking about retirement any time soon
Messi is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time
Lionel Messi has hinted that retirement is not on his mind anytime soon, stating he still has “more years to play” football.
At 37, many would expect the Argentine legend to be nearing the end of his illustrious career, but Messi insists he feels “unstoppable” at the moment.
Currently shining for Inter Miami, Messi has no immediate plans to hang up his boots.
However, he remained somewhat reserved when asked whether he would feature in the 2026 World Cup.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi’s career is unmatched, boasting numerous Champions League titles, a World Cup, and virtually every major accolade in the sport.
The prospect of him continuing his journey on the pitch is undoubtedly great news for football fans around the world.
He said at the Marca America Award night: “Coming to Inter Miami does not mean I will retire anytime soon, I still have more years to play.”
Messi added: “In the moment, we will see. I don’t like to accelerate time or look ahead. I try to enjoy every day.
“I hope I can keep playing at this level to feel good and be happy.
“When I get to do what I love I am happy.
“I value that more than reaching the 2026 [World Cup] tournament.
“I haven’t set a goal to reach the World Cup, but more so to live day-to-day and be well.”
After representing his country in the latest World Cup qualifiers, where he scored a hat-trick against Bolivia, he now returns to action with Inter Miami, who will host the New England Revolution on Saturday night in Major League Soccer.
