Liverpool are awaiting confirmation of the extent of the injury that forced Diogo Jota to leave the field during their victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
However, Arne Slot does not expect him to be available for Wednesday’s Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.
The Portuguese forward was injured early in the game following a challenge by Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo near the halfway line.
In an incident reminiscent of the one that led to William Saliba’s red card during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, Adarabioyo was only shown a yellow card by referee John Brooks, despite being the last man.
The decision has sparked debate, with many feeling it could have been a red card for the Chelsea defender.
Diogo Jota received treatment on the pitch and initially tried to carry on but was eventually substituted after just 31 minutes, with Darwin Nunez coming on in his place.
Liverpool were leading 1-0 at the time, courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s penalty.
Nunez made an immediate impact, setting up Curtis Jones for what seemed to be a penalty, only for the decision to be overturned by Brooks after consulting the pitchside monitor.
Slot said: “Diogo had to be substituted and I am not sure what it is, but I’d be surprised if he is there on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, the Ductchman revealed that Liverpool faced several fitness concerns in the lead-up to the encounter with Chelsea
“I have a lot of confidence in this team, but you also saw today – after the international break – that we have some problems,” he explained.
“Conor Bradley is not in; Trent you probably don’t know, was also not training in the first days after he came back, so he was a bit of a doubt before we started the game [and] then we had Macca being sick.”
Liverpool are already dealing with several injury issues, with Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, and Harvey Elliott all sidelined.
