Kyle Walker has compounded Manchester City’s injury woes after missing the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Walker, who featured in one of England’s two fixtures during the international break, did not travel with the City squad to Molineux on Sunday.
As a result, Rico Lewis retained his place at right-back, continuing his impressive start to the season.
Walker’s absence adds to the ongoing injury issues surrounding Kevin De Bruyne, with Pep Guardiola indicating that the Belgian is not yet ready to return to action.
De Bruyne was expectedly absent from the squad at Wolves, although he has resumed training.
Nathan Ake made his return to the bench after recovering from injury.
Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji, who missed training earlier in the week and was a doubt, was also named on the bench, allowing John Stones to start in defence.
Walker’s absence has been attributed to fitness concerns, with Man City hopeful that it will not become a long-term issue as they prepare for crucial clashes against Sparta Prague and Southampton this week.
Man City will also continue to cope without Rodri and Oscar Bobb, while De Bruyne is anticipated to return in the coming weeks.
On De Bruyne and Ake, Guardiola said on Friday: “I don’t think [they will be ready to face Wolves].
“They are not ready.
“They are training, they are in the last part.
“Yesterday Nathan [Ake] did his first training with the team.
“Maybe he can travel but he is not ready to start.
“Today was a day off so we will see how they feel.”
