Pep Guardiola couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at his former rival Jurgen Klopp after Manchester City secured a last-gasp victory against Wolves.
The Premier League champions needed a 95th-minute goal from John Stones to seal a hard-fought 2-1 win at Molineux.
Facing the league’s bottom side, Man City were given a real scare as Wolves put up a spirited fight.
Stones’ decisive goal came amid controversy, initially ruled out for offside against Bernardo Silva before being overturned following a VAR review.
While Guardiola was pleased with his team’s resilience, he subtly pointed out that Man City’s success doesn’t usually hinge on last-minute drama, drawing a contrast to Klopp’s Liverpool, who were known for their thrilling late comebacks during their peak years.
Pep Guardiola told the BBC: “We are not used to winning games at the end, like Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool it happened many times. It is a good flavour for us.”
He added: “With 11 [Wolves] players in the penalty spot literally it is so difficult.
“The way we have done many years, the teams have decided to play in that way [against us].
“But we were patient.
“They had some transitions, they have pace up front and physicality in the middle, they are so strong.
“But we were patient.
“Still we are who we are and that is so nice.”
Manchester City extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to a club-record 31 games, having last suffered defeat in December 2023 against Aston Villa.
With this remarkable achievement, Man City’s focus now shifts to the Champions League, where they will host Sparta Prague on Wednesday.
Their next league fixture is scheduled for Saturday, when they welcome Southampton to the Etihad Stadium.
Southampton currently sit second from the bottom in the Premier League standings, as City look to continue their dominant domestic form.
