Pep Guardiola has candidly discussed his future at Manchester City, revealing that he has accomplished everything possible with the club.
He admitted that it is now his passion for the Etihad Stadium that continues to motivate him.
Under Guardiola’s leadership, Man City have secured the Premier League title in six of the past eight years, including a record-breaking four consecutive victories.
The 53-year-old has also led the team to a treble, a domestic quadruple, and a double, making history as the first manager in English football to achieve the remarkable feat of reaching 100 points in a single campaign.
Despite these monumental successes, Guardiola emphasizes that it is his ongoing drive and commitment to the club that sustain his position.
“I like my job, as I’ve said many times. I love what I do. In terms of numbers or titles, it’s already done, I would say a long time ago,” Pep Guardiola said – as per reports from The Mirror.
“I never, ever expected this when I arrived here. But still I like coming here in the morning to work, I love it!
“So I am thinking about the game against Wolves and the messages I have to tell [the players], the images I have to see, the training I have to prepare.
“Still I like it – and this is the main reason I am a manager.
“When I don’t feel this – and not just at Man City – I will not be a manager.
“I will not even train. That’s for sure.”
With his passion for the game still burning brightly, Pep Guardiola is determined to extend Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the season as they prepare to face Wolves at Molineux.
However, the club is already looking towards a future without him, having begun the search for potential replacements.
Following the announcement of Txiki Begiristain’s departure, City has confirmed that Hugo Viana from Sporting Lisbon will take over his role.
Reports suggest that Sporting CP’s coach, Ruben Amorim, is a leading candidate to succeed Guardiola.
Other contenders include Girona’s Michel, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, and Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany.
Interestingly, Man City executives are also considering a less conventional option who shares Guardiola’s footballing philosophy.
Additionally, there has been speculation about Guardiola potentially returning to the City Football Group in the future to oversee its global network of clubs.
Guardiola stated: “I would criticise my manager a lot! I can’t do it.
“I like the green grass. To be the man in the tie, I do not like it.
“I want to be happy every day, that’s why I do this.
“Of course, winning titles gives you a chance to have a job, but that isn’t the pleasure.
“I want to beat Wolves desperately.
“I want to prepare well and I want to win because I live better and it makes my people happy and also my fans, of course.”
