Former Liverpool midfielder Patrik Berger believes that injuries and a lack of discipline are the only factors that could hinder the club’s potential title challenge this season.
The Reds currently sit at the top of the Premier League after a narrow victory against Chelsea.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Nicolas Jackson equalised.
However, Arne Slot’s side was not to be denied, as Curtis Jones netted the winner.
This victory leaves Liverpool one point clear at the top of the league, with their only defeat thus far coming against Nottingham Forest.
Although the match was not particularly thrilling, Berger asserts that the Reds will not be concerned about the performance.
He emphasizes that long-term injuries could be the only significant threat to the team’s momentum.
Speaking post-match, he said: “Not the best game really to be fair but sometimes you need to win ugly and that’s what Liverpool did today.
“They have three points, top of the table so very happy.”
The former Czech international added: “I mean it is a long season and there are no easy games in the Premier League but if someone would tell the manager that he would be top of the table after this time, he would take it.
“So we can be happy, not the best game but three points in the bag and we can move on.
“He couldn’t ask for a better start obviously.
“But as I said, it is a long season and they’re going to judge him at the end of the season.
“They’re playing well, winning games and getting points.
“There’s so many competitions but so far so good.
“Let’s wait until the end of the season.
“The beginning of the season, I felt he likes to play the same team every single game.
“Today, he changed a few players.
“He feels there’s so many games coming up that he has to start to rotate and keep the players happy.
“I feel like if they can keep the players fit and no suspensions, there is no reason why they couldn’t carry on as they have done so far.”
Liverpool will be looking to build on their impressive form under new manager Slot during a challenging few weeks ahead.
The Reds are set to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League, followed by a crucial clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
In addition to these fixtures, Liverpool will also take on Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Newcastle, and local rivals Everton and Tottenham before the Christmas break.
