Ajax ‘enquire’ about Liverpool boss Arne Slot

Arne Slot has been the subject of an enquiry from Ajax as they search for a new long-term head coach, according to reports in the Netherlands.

Slot is set to enter the summer with a year left on his Liverpool contract amid doubts over his future. The 47-year-old retains the backing of Fenway Sports Group, according to Merseyside sources, but there is growing unrest outside the club.

Reports of Ajax’s interest are notable, with Mike Verweij discussing the situation on the Kick-Off podcast via De Telegraaf.

“I keep hearing that they also inquired about Arne Slot,” Verweij said. “But yeah, Slot is still very firmly in the saddle. He is just going to continue at Liverpool.

“And I also understood that Arne Slot wasn’t very keen to go to Ajax at this point in his career.”

With Arne Slot seemingly out of reach, Ajax are expected to turn to Michel Sanchez, who was previously considered by Liverpool as a successor to Jurgen Klopp in 2024.

Slot is not viewed as untouchable, largely due to uncertainty over his deal, which runs until 2027. His agent Rafaela Pimenta is likely to attract interest if his situation changes. For now, sources in both the Netherlands and England expect him to remain for a third season.

However, recent messaging has shifted slightly. Paul Joyce reported that Slot “has been reviewing his backroom staff in the event of him staying.”

Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United – Liverpool’s 19th loss of the season, matching their worst this century – has increased scrutiny.

Three games remain, with Champions League qualification still possible. A full internal review will follow, with a final decision on Slot expected afterward.
