Alexander Isak has not featured in Newcastle United’s pre-season as Liverpool continue their pursuit of the striker.
While Newcastle have firmly stated they have no intention of selling, they are still exploring potential replacements.
It is expected that Isak will miss the upcoming trip to Villa Park, with his future remaining uncertain.
According to The Athletic, Isak is adamant he will never play for Newcastle again.
Even if Newcastle refuse to sell the 25-year-old Swedish striker and he remains at St James’s Park when the transfer window closes, Isak considers his time at the club over and has no desire to reintegrate into the squad.
Last season, Isak played a key role in helping Newcastle win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League.
However, two weeks before the campaign ended, he informed manager Eddie Howe of his desire to leave and reiterated this during a phone call before flying to Sweden after Newcastle’s final-day defeat to Everton.
Liverpool have yet to submit a new offer following their initial £110million bid at the start of August, which was rejected.
Newcastle may soften their stance if a proposal closer to £150million arrives and if they can secure a suitable replacement in the market.
The Premier League champions remain firmly interested, and Isak is focused on a move to Anfield.
