Alexander Isak described the feeling of scoring his first Liverpool goal as “amazing.”
The Sweden striker opened his account for the club in Tuesday night’s 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Southampton at Anfield.
Isak broke the deadlock toward the end of the first half in the third-round tie, while Hugo Ekitike secured the win with a late finish shortly after Shea Charles had equalised for the visitors.
The 26-year-old, making his second start for the Reds, played the first 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time.
Having made three appearances in the past week, the former Newcastle United forward is making the most of every outing to sharpen his form.
Speaking to ITV Sport post-match, Alexander Isak said: “Amazing. It was good to get back out there and score my first goal here, at Anfield. The win as well. So, it’s a good night.
“I should have scored that one [the chance early on] as well, but that’s a part of being a striker – you miss some and then you score some.
“I think the most important [thing] is to shake it off and to be ready for the next one.
“I just try to play my game and not think too much. I feel confidence in myself that things will work out and that when I get my chances I’ll put them away – that’s my mindset. I’m happy that I put one away today.”
He added: “I feel good, I feel good. I think with every game I play it’s very helpful and gets me in better shape. I’m just getting more and more ready.”
Asked how close he is to being 100 per cent fit, Isak replied: “It’s difficult to say.
“I think it’s a mixture of fitness-wise and also football-wise. I feel good, I feel like I’m in a shape to at least make a difference.”
