Alexander Sorloth equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Barcelona

Alexander Sorloth equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as he scored Atletico Madrid’s second goal against Barcelona in a dramatic La Liga clash.

The Norwegian striker doubled Atletico’s lead in the 70th minute after Julián Alvarez broke the deadlock at the stroke of half-time.

With this strike at the Wanda Metropolitano, Alexander Sorloth became only the second player in history, after Ronaldo, to score in six consecutive matches against the Catalan club.

However, Sorloth’s celebration was short-lived as Robert Lewandowski pulled one back for Barcelona just two minutes after his goal.

Ferran Torres then netted the equaliser in the 78th minute, and Lamine Yamal scored a stunning long-range goal to put Barcelona in front for the first time in the match.

Torres completed his brace in the 98th minute as Xavi Hernandez’s side clinched a thrilling 4-2 victory, climbing back to the top of the La Liga table.

Meanwhile, Atletico star Antoine Griezmann made his 520th La Liga appearance, equalling Lionel Messi’s tally of top-flight outings, after being named in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup on Sunday.
