Alexis Mac Allister has confirmed he has not yet opened contract talks with Liverpool but insists he is in “no rush” to extend his stay at Anfield.

The midfielder signed a five-year deal when he joined the Reds in 2023 and recently saw teammate Ryan Gravenberch, who arrived in the same summer, agree fresh terms that will keep him on Merseyside until 2032.

Another 2023 signing, Dominik Szoboszlai, is also currently in discussions with the club over a new contract, which had led to speculation that Mac Allister could soon follow.

However, the midfielder’s father and agent, Carlos Mac Allister, recently stated that Liverpool had not approached the player’s representatives regarding negotiations.

The FIFA World Cup winner confirmed that the situation remains unchanged while speaking ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

“First of all I want to congratulate Ryan because it is really good for him and he deserves it,” Alexis Mac Allister said.

“He’s been a really important player for us in the season that we won the Premier League, which is not easy at all. So congratulations to him.

“In terms of me, we are not in contract talks but I am not in a rush and that is only a fact.”

The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder also opened up on how he covets the Champions League, adding: “It’s definitely a dream right now to win Champions League.

“Of course, it is a World Cup year as well, so why not win it twice? But the Champions League is one of the most important goals this season.

“I think we have a team that can reach that, we can win it but we need to show it on the pitch and I am pretty sure tomorrow’s game will be a tough one.”
