Alisson Becker expects Liverpool to activate the option to extend his contract by an additional year, as he also spoke about his long-term ambition to one day return to his boyhood club, Internacional.
While Liverpool’s goalkeeping department is undergoing several changes this summer, discussions about his contract extension are expected to be addressed later.
Now a two-time Premier League winner, Alisson has established himself as one of the Reds’ most vital players and among the world’s best goalkeepers during his seven years at Anfield.
In 2021, he demonstrated his commitment by signing a contract running until 2026, with an option for the club to extend it by a further 12 months.
By the time that extension would take effect, the goalkeeper will be 35 years old.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Peru, Alisson expressed his confidence that Liverpool will make the extension official.
“I’ve never been able to plan long term. Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise,” Alisson said.
“It’s a decisive moment in my career, with a World Cup coming up. I want to be very focused, I don’t want anything external to get in the way of that.”
On returning to play club football in their home country, he added: “I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not.
“Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter.
“I don’t know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level. That’s what I have planned.”
