Andoni Iraola has reportedly agreed terms with Liverpool and is set to be confirmed as the club’s new head coach.
The Spaniard emerged as Liverpool’s preferred candidate following the departure of Arne Slot, with the club moving quickly to open negotiations after the Dutchman’s dismissal.
Those discussions progressed rapidly and an agreement has now reportedly been reached in principle.
Iraola is expected to take charge at Anfield after a short break following an impressive campaign with Bournemouth.
The 43-year-old guided the Cherries to a sixth-place Premier League finish and secured European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
The former Athletic Club defender will begin preparations for his first season at Liverpool in early July. However, a number of senior players are expected to be absent during parts of pre-season due to their involvement at the World Cup.
Before his success in England, Iraola managed AEK Larnaca, Mirandés and Rayo Vallecano, earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches.
His appointment also reunites him with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who brought him to Bournemouth in 2023.
Liverpool’s pre-season schedule currently includes friendlies against Sunderland on July 25, Wrexham on July 30 and Leeds United on August 2 during a tour of the United States.
Those fixtures could offer supporters an early glimpse of Iraola’s style and tactical approach, although additional matches may be arranged before the squad departs for America.
