According to Sky Sports, Antoine Semenyo’s representatives are expected to travel to Manchester to finalise contract terms as Manchester City open talks with Bournemouth over the winger’s £65million release clause.
Discussions are set to advance this week, with City keen to complete a deal for the 25-year-old when the January transfer window opens on January 1.
Semenyo’s camp are also expected to agree personal terms on a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium.
At present, City are the only club to have formally contacted Bournemouth regarding the clause, which is believed to be active between January 1 and January 10.
This comes despite strong interest in Semenyo from Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea prior to Christmas.
Chelsea chose not to progress their interest beyond an initial enquiry, while Spurs have since shifted their focus to alternative targets.
Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola has ruled out the possibility of back-up goalkeeper James Trafford leaving in January, despite the England international reportedly becoming unsettled with Gianluigi Donnarumma established as the club’s clear first choice.
However, City are open to allowing Stefan Ortega to depart during the window.
Looking ahead, City are also assessing their options for central midfield cover for Tijjani Reijnders, with Mateo Kovačić currently sidelined through injury and Bernardo Silva set to be out of contract in the summer.
Right-back was an area of interest during the summer, but impressive performances from Matheus Nunes in that role have reduced its priority.
Tino Livramento remains a long-term target, although Newcastle United have no plans to sell.
In defence, City are among several clubs monitoring Marc Guéhi, who could be available on a free transfer next summer.
John Stones is entering the final year of his contract, while Nathan Ake is approaching his 31st birthday, prompting City to plan ahead.
