Arne Slot has confirmed that while Liverpool would ideally like to add “fresh energy” to their squad ahead of next season, he remains “happy” with his current options.
The Reds’ approach appears calm and measured, especially after securing two of their most significant deals in recent weeks with the renewal of influential veterans Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
However, there is a sense of missed opportunity with academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold now set to leave the club and join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Despite this, Van Dijk recently suggested that this summer should be a “big one” for the club.
Slot, however, downplayed his captain’s comments, explaining that there are “not so many reasons to make it a busy one” and reiterating his preference for a cautious and thoughtful approach to transfers.
The Dutch manager, who led his team to a title-winning campaign last season, has emphasised the importance of stability.
His only summer signing, Federico Chiesa, has played just 33 minutes of Premier League football, further indicating that Slot does not feel the need to make drastic changes.
The coach has made it clear that Liverpool will only target available players who can genuinely improve the squad, suggesting that their transfer pool may be relatively small.
“It’s already a big summer because we extended Virgil and Mo and for large parts of the season, I don’t think everyone expected that. For us to keep them is a big thing,” Arne Slot told Sky Sports.
“I’ve said already that I am happy with the squad we have.
“We will see what the summer brings but sometimes it can be good to bring fresh energy.
“It has already been a good summer and we won the league. Only if we see someone on the market who can improve us.”
