Arsenal eye Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel amid January transfer push

Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, with the 19-year-old seeking a move away from the German club, according to The Independent.

He is among several players being pursued, with London rivals Chelsea also reportedly interested in his services.

One key obstacle for the Gunners is negotiating a loan deal with an option to buy, as fewer clubs would be willing to commit to a loan without the possibility of a permanent transfer.

Tel is said to be keen on moving to a club where he will be assured of regular playing time.

The lack of consistent minutes at Bayern is the primary reason behind his push to leave during the January window, and the Bavarian giants are now deliberating their next move.

Arsenal had already been monitoring Tel, seeing him as a fit for their plans to strengthen the forward line.

The French U-21 international’s versatility – able to play across the front three, his two-footedness, pace, and finishing ability – aligns well with Mikel Arteta’s preference for young players with high potential.

The news of Tel’s availability has caught Arsenal by surprise, given his obvious talent, and has naturally prompted the club to consider how they could structure a deal with Bayern.

However, Bayern are keen to retain such a promising talent and would likely seek a deal that allows Mathys Tel to gain the playing time he desires while keeping the option to bring him back in the future.

Tel himself is open to the idea of joining Arsenal, attracted not only by the club’s current stature but also the prospect of more playing time due to Arteta’s relatively thin attacking options.

This is not the case with Chelsea, where competition for forward spots is fierce.

Arsenal are also pursuing Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan, though they face stiff competition from Aston Villa.

The Midlands club believe they can offer a compelling package and more immediate first-team football, which could influence Nypan’s decision.
