Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus ruled out for rest of season with ACL Injury

Arsenal have confirmed Gabriel Jesus’ worst fears, revealing that he has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Brazilian forward had feared he sustained serious damage during the FA Cup tie against Manchester United.

On Tuesday a club statement said: “ Further to being substituted with an injury during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

The devastating injury is expected to not only keep Gabriel Jesus– who had scored six goals in his last seven appearances for the Gunners – sidelined for the remainder of the current season, but potentially into next season as well.

This news is a severe blow to Arsenal’s title ambitions, leaving them with only one recognized forward in Kai Havertz.

Manager Mikel Arteta will also be without star player Bukayo Saka until at least March, following his hamstring tear last month.

Arteta expressed concern over Jesus’ injury during a press conference on Tuesday, prior to receiving the forward’s medical report.

However, he added that the setback does not necessarily mean the club will turn to the transfer market for a forward this month, despite always monitoring potential signings.

Arteta said: “My answer doesn’t change, my answer remains the same.

“We are actively looking at the market to improve the squad.

“We have been doing that since day one. We would be naive to not do that, because it’s an opportunity to evolve and improve the squad.

“Especially with the circumstances that we have we are looking and we are trying and let’s see what we are able to do.”
