Arsenal have formally approached RB Leipzig regarding the signing of striker Benjamin Sesko, according to Sky Germany.
Per Sky Sports News, the Gunnners have been exploring the conditions of a potential deal, conducting due diligence on several striker options, including Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres.
However, no formal bids have been submitted yet.
Arsenal have maintained a long-term interest in Sesko.
The club were seriously considering a January move, but Sesko’s agent dismissed it due to a gentleman’s agreement with Leipzig, which saw the striker committed to staying at least until this summer.
The Gunners also pursued Sesko last summer, but he extended his contract with the German club until 2029.
Now, following RB Leipzig’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, the club appear willing to let Sesko leave.
Sesko’s release clause is variable, based on appearances and goals, and could reach as high as £69million (€82million).
RB Leipzig are now willing to let Sesko leave after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
The striker is keen to join a club competing for the Champions League and domestic titles.
Sesko is not Arsenal’s only striker target. Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and others remain under consideration as well.
Last season, Sesko scored 21 goals and provided six assists across all competitions, including four goals in the Champions League.
