Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly demanding a fee of €60m (£51m) to part ways with centre-back Piero Hincapie this summer.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed another stellar season under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, making over 40 appearances for the third consecutive campaign with Die Werkself.
Hincapie, who has impressed with his performances both as a centre-back and a left-back, continues to shine at the heart of Leverkusen’s defence, helping them maintain their strong position in the Bundesliga.
The Ecuador international’s form has attracted significant interest from top European clubs, with his versatility and potential making him a standout target.
Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with Hincapie, following his consistent performances, while Real Madrid, who are also reportedly considering Leverkusen’s Alonso as their next manager, have shown interest as well.
However, securing one of the Bundesliga’s most promising talents will not come cheap.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Hincapie’s release clause stands at approximately €60m, a sum that any club wishing to acquire him this summer must trigger.
While a move this summer has not been ruled out, Leverkusen are reportedly keen to hold on to their young defender.
Liverpool are expected to strengthen their defence, especially in light of Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation, while Manchester United, who are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, could target Hincapie.
The Ecuadorian has already proven his ability to thrive in Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, which could make him a good fit at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also expected to bolster their defensive ranks this summer, especially after the injury struggles of Eder Militao and the anticipated departure of David Alaba.
Madrid are likely to begin their defensive overhaul in the upcoming transfer window.
