Bayern Munich have re-entered the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah, according to reports.
Tah, who is in the final year of his contract, attracted significant interest last summer when Bayern publicly pursued a move for him.
However, the Bavarian giants ultimately decided against meeting Leverkusen’s asking price, walking away from negotiations.
At that time, Tah confirmed his intention to leave on a free transfer.
Since then, Barcelona have emerged as the club most frequently linked with the 29-year-old, partly due to the influence of fellow German Hansi Flick at the Catalan club.
In January, reports suggested a deal was close to completion, but Barcelona’s salary cap issues have stalled any potential move.
Now, Bayern’s Bundesliga rivals, Real Madrid, have entered the fray, while Manchester United have also expressed interest in what could be one of the summer’s biggest bargains.
Despite this, Bayern’s shadow looms large over the situation.
Sky Sports Germany reports that Bayern Munich have renewed their interest in Tah, especially with the impending departure of Eric Dier to Monaco.
As a result, the Leverkusen defender has once again emerged as Bayern’s top defensive target.
While Tah was eager to move to Bayern last summer, he now has a wider range of options, and further suitors are likely to emerge in the coming weeks.
A key factor in Tah’s decision could be the future of Leverkusen’s current manager, Xabi Alonso.
On Friday, Alonso confirmed he would be leaving the club, with reports suggesting a move to Real Madrid is on the horizon.
Alonso is believed to be keen on bringing Tah along with him to the Spanish capital.
Aware of the growing competition for Tah’s signature, Bayern are prepared to intensify their efforts to keep the German international in the Bundesliga.
Tah has yet to make a decision about his future, stating that he wants to evaluate all available options before settling on his next destination.
