Bayern Munich’s centre-back Kim Min-jae has expressed his desire to remain in Bavaria, despite growing transfer interest from several top clubs across Europe.
The South Korea international has faced a challenging second season at Bayern.
Kim has made more errors leading to shots than any other Bayern player this term, drawing heavy criticism, particularly for his performance in the club’s Champions League quarter-final exit against Inter Milan.
Just two weeks after that European disappointment, Kim was substituted at half-time during Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Mainz due to the persistence of an Achilles injury.
Despite concerns over his form and fitness, Kim remains in demand.
Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on the 28-year-old, while Serie A giants Juventus have also been linked with a move for the former Napoli defender.
However, Kim is determined to stay at Bayern. “For me, there’s no reason to leave,” he told SPORT BILD. “I hope I can stay. But we’ll see.”
Kim, known for his nickname ‘The Monster’ during his time at Napoli, where he helped the club secure a long-awaited Serie A title in 2023, has found himself at the center of less flattering discussions in recent months.
A persistent Achilles problem has been a major factor in his struggles. “I’ve been in a lot of pain for seven months,” Kim admitted over the weekend.
“I just want to be fit for next season.”
In an interview with South Korean outlet Leestar, Kim elaborated on his injury woes.
“The Achilles tendon problem is still there,” he explained. “But I’m gritting my teeth, closing my eyes, and getting through it.”
Kim Min-jae acknowledged that his mistakes on the field were partly due to his ongoing pain but emphasized the need for improvement.
“Mistakes, injuries, or too many games – those are perhaps just excuses,” he said. “I still have to stay focused.
‘That’s my job. I have to be able to deal with that. Mistakes were also caused by pain, of course. But ultimately, I should have played better.”
As Bayern Munich prepare for next season, it remains uncertain whether Kim will get the opportunity to showcase his talents at the club again.
