Cole Palmer’s future at Chelsea has been the subject of recent speculation, with reports linking the England international to Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
Much of the chatter has been fuelled by social media rumours suggesting his contract includes a release clause that would allow him to leave if Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League.
However, a new report from the Daily Mail has dismissed those claims, stating definitively that Palmer’s contract does not contain such a clause.
Whether or not Chelsea secure Champions League qualification, the Blues reportedly have no concerns about losing the 23-year-old this summer.
Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League – a position that could still be enough for Champions League football depending on UEFA coefficients – but with a tough run-in, their spot is far from guaranteed.
Despite the uncertainty, there is growing confidence at Stamford Bridge that Palmer will remain at the club beyond the summer.
Chelsea view him as a key figure in their long-term project.
The former Manchester City forward recently broke into the club’s top 10 Premier League goalscorers of all time – an impressive feat considering he has only been at the club for two seasons.
Cole Palmer ended an 18-game goal drought by converting a penalty in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend.
After the match, he hit back at criticism online, calling out “idiots and trolls” on social media.
“S**t happens,” Palmer said of his dry spell before immediately apologising for his language.
“I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more motivation, more fight to do well, not just for myself but for the team.
“You know yourself social media is just full of idiots, trolls or whatever. I don’t pay no attention. To score today I’m happy.
“It’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving to try and reach my levels. For anyone not getting chances, not scoring, you’re letting your team down at the end of the day.
“I feel like I’m mentally strong anyway.”
