Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will leave the club, with no intention of signing a new contract.
The England international nearly joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day, undergoing a medical on September 1, but Palace’s attempts to replace him fell through when Igor Julio chose a loan to West Ham.
Guehi’s move was cancelled, though Liverpool may return next summer when he is available on a free transfer.
Reports suggest Palace could sell the 25-year-old in January.
Marc Guehi can sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs from January 1, with interest reportedly from Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.
“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year,” said the Austrian on Friday.
“The club wanted (him to stay). They offered Marc a new contract. But he said: ‘No, I want to make something different’. And that’s normal.
“And for us, it’s how we can deal with this situation? (What) is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”
Liverpool, linked recently with Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, return to Premier League action on Sunday against Manchester United.
