Dayot Upamecano addresses Bayern Munich future amid links to Liverpool

The French centre-back’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could leave the German champions on a free transfer this summer

Dayot Upamecano has vowed to make the “right decision” regarding his future as uncertainty continues to surround his situation at Bayern Munich.

The French centre-back’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could leave the German champions on a free transfer this summer.

Upamecano has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months after the Reds failed in their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.

Speaking last week, Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, revealed that the defender’s agent has already received calls from several interested clubs.

He said: “It’s normal if other clubs are calling his agents, it’s part of the game. I’ve already said that we want to do our best and get new contract done. We are on it.”

Reports emerged less than 24 hours after Liverpool’s Champions League win over Real Madrid at Anfield that the Spanish giants had reached a verbal agreement to sign the 26-year-old in the summer.

Dayot Upamecano, addressing the speculation around his Bayern future, told L’Equipe: “My agent is taking care of it.

“We will make the right decision. I am receiving good advice. I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team. I don’t have the headspace for it.”
