Erik ten Hag has returned to his Manchester mansion to collect his belongings, three weeks after being dismissed as Manchester United manager.
Ten Hag was sacked on October 28 following United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium.
After his sacking, the 54-year-old returned to his hometown of Haaksbergen in the Netherlands, where he has been spotted attending Eredivisie matches over the past few weekends.
However, after allowing some time for reflection, Ten Hag has now returned to Manchester to clear out his former home.
He and his wife, Bianca, were seen dining at their favourite Italian restaurant, Piccolino, in Hale, Greater Manchester, on Monday night.
Ten Hag was spotted wearing the same Adidas gilet he wore during his final match as United manager.
His return to the city coincided with Ruben Amorim’s first training session at Manchester United’s Carrington training complex on Monday.
Man United had flown directly to Portugal to secure Amorim’s services on the same day Erik ten Hag was dismissed.
The 39-year-old former Sporting Lisbon boss is set to make his debut in charge of United on Sunday against Ipswich.
Amorim has already begun overhauling the work Ten Hag put in during his two-and-a-half-year tenure, implementing his preferred 3-4-3 formation in training – likely a departure from Ten Hag’s 4-2-3-1 system.
Despite signing a new contract with United in the summer, Ten Hag and his coaching staff received a substantial severance package after their dismissal.
The Dutchman, however, is eager to return to management and has kept himself busy watching live football in the Netherlands.
He attended the Eredivisie match between Heracles and NAC Breda, close to his hometown of Haaksbergen, before heading to FC Twente to watch their game against Ajax, another of his former clubs.
Ten Hag was reportedly “devastated” by his sacking at Old Trafford and expressed his emotions in a heartfelt message to United fans, shortly after Amorim was confirmed as his successor.
“I want to thank you for giving me this feeling and for your support.
“I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad,” he wrote.
“We won two trophies – achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end.
“I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home. Thank you for this chapter in my life. Erik.”
