Federico Chiesa is set to hold talks with new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola over his role next season, with the Italy international acknowledging that he may have to consider leaving the club.
The forward has played just 1,253 minutes across two seasons since arriving at Anfield and, at 28, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
With Iraola replacing Arne Slot, Chiesa’s future remains uncertain. The Spaniard may have a different view of the winger’s place within the squad, potentially opening the door to a fresh start at Liverpool.
However, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa admitted that his decision will largely depend on his initial discussions with Iraola, suggesting he could seek a move elsewhere if he is not part of the new manager’s plans.
“I want to play. If I don’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to look elsewhere,” he explained.
“I barely played in my first year at Liverpool, and in the last one, very little.
“I’ll go on a training camp in the US, then I’ll talk to the club and the new manager, Iraola, and we’ll see.”
Federico Chiesa also revealed that Liverpool blocked a proposed return to Juventus during the January transfer window.
“Juventus is always in my heart, and I’d like to return,” he said. “I’ve never discussed money with Juve, and I never will.”
Asked what has gone wrong for him at Liverpool, Chiesa replied: “The playing time. I’ve played very little since the start of 2026.
“I have a great relationship with Liverpool. In January, the club and Slot told me I couldn’t leave; they needed me, partly for numerical reasons.
“We were in a tight spot. I understood the situation and I was left smiling.
“Liverpool is always talked about; last year they helped me win the Premier League. And yet…”
Having been absent from the Italy squad since Euro 2024, partly due to injury and a lack of regular playing time, Chiesa’s priority is earning consistent minutes at club level.
“I want to get back to being a key player, but to do that I need to play more than a thousand minutes a season for my club,” he continued.
“Playing so little, I won’t get anywhere.”
Chiesa is not short of potential suitors should he decide to leave Liverpool this summer.
Alongside Juventus, fellow Serie A clubs Atalanta, AC Milan, Inter Milan and AS Roma have all been linked with the Italy international, whose situation is being closely monitored ahead of the new season.
