Giorgi Mamardashvili described as “perfect fit” for Liverpool

Georgia coach David Webb has hailed Giorgi Mamardashvili as a “perfect fit” for Liverpool, with the Valencia goalkeeper set to join the Reds in 2025.

Mamardashvili, who caught the eye with standout performances at Euro 2024, became Arne Slot’s first signing as Liverpool manager during the summer transfer window.

However, the 24-year-old will remain Valencia’s first-choice goalkeeper until his move to Anfield.

Despite Los Che’s struggles in La Liga – where they are battling relegation – Mamardashvili has been a rare bright spot, showcasing his quality with moments like a stunning double save against Getafe in October that earned his side a crucial point.

Webb, who served as assistant to Willy Sagnol during Georgia’s impressive run to the Euro 2024 round of 16, has offered insight into what Liverpool can expect from their new man.

Speaking about the £25m signing, Webb emphasized Mamardashvili’s composure, shot-stopping ability, and potential to thrive at a top club as he looks to compete for a starting role at Anfield.

“Giorgi just feels like a perfect fit for Liverpool,” Webb told GiveMeSport.

“He’s an outstanding shot stopper. He commands his box. He’s very athletic, not only big but strong as well.

“And one of his best attributes, which I suppose Liverpool fans may not know, is his character.

“He’s got a very, very strong character. He’s an extremely hard worker and is determined to get right to the top.

“Although he joined Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi, he was on loan at Locomotive Tbilisi, a relatively small club in Georgia, before moving to Spain,” Webb continued.

“To go from there to a regular LaLiga starter in 12 months is quite incredible.

“And part of that success is down to his character and mental resilience.”
