Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly emerged as a summer transfer target for Champions League finalists Inter Milan.
Zirkzee joined United last summer in a £36.5million move following an impressive spell at Bologna, where he helped the Serie A side secure a surprise Champions League qualification.
While the Dutchman made an immediate impact by scoring on his Premier League debut off the bench against Fulham on the opening day of the season, he has struggled to establish a consistent role in a United team that has underperformed.
Originally recruited by Erik ten Hag, Zirkzee has faced challenges adapting under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
However, he has shown promise playing as one of the dual No.10s in Amorim’s tactical setup.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter are considering bringing Zirkzee back to Italy.
Their chances could improve if United fail to win the Europa League final next week, which would leave the club without European football next season – and the revenue it brings.
The report claims Zirkzee has “lost value” since his move to Manchester, making a potential deal more accessible for Inter, who are also said to have no issues meeting his salary demands.
At 24, the forward also fits into Inter’s long-term vision.
Inter are exploring several attacking options, with Zirkzee one of them.
He could be an alternative to Nico Paz, who has impressed on loan at Como but may be recalled by Real Madrid due to a buy-back clause.
Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny are also reportedly under consideration.
Zirkzee’s debut season at Old Trafford has been cut short by injury, and both he and Rasmus Højlund face uncertain futures as United are widely expected to target a new striker in the upcoming transfer window in their search for a consistent goalscorer.
