Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes are stronger after FA Cup exit

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool now have a better chance of winning the Premier League following their shock FA Cup exit.

The Reds were eliminated on Sunday afternoon, losing 1-0 to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park in the fourth round.

Before facing the Pilgrims, who are currently bottom of the Championship, Liverpool had won their previous six matches across all competitions.

The Merseyside club entered the match fresh off a resounding victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

However, manager Arne Slot made sweeping changes, resting several key players.

The Dutchman made 10 alterations to his starting lineup, with only goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher retaining his place.

Despite the changes, Liverpool still fielded a strong team, with Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz leading the attack, while Harvey Elliott played a key role in midfield.

In a stunning upset, Plymouth managed to defeat Liverpool, with the only goal of the game coming from a penalty shortly after half-time.

Now, with the FA Cup behind them, Liverpool will shift their focus to the Premier League, with a challenging Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

While the Reds face a tough run of fixtures ahead, Carragher seems to believe that their chances of winning the Premier League have improved following their early exit from the FA Cup.

After the game at Home Park, the former Liverpool defender responded to an optimistic fan’s tweet, hinting that the absence of cup distractions might benefit his former side in their title bid.

“Probability to win the league has gone up,” posted @TaintlessRed on X, formerly known at Twitter. Carragher replied with the ‘100 emoji’, suggesting he agrees with the Liverpool fan’s comment.
