Jamie Gittens, the highly sought-after winger, is pushing for an exit from Borussia Dortmund, according to credible reports from Germany.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a big-money move to Premier League giants Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, following a series of impressive performances.
Gittens made a blistering start to the 2024/25 season, quickly capturing the attention of Europe’s elite clubs.
However, his progress has stalled under the management of Niko Kovac, who replaced Nuri Sahin as head coach in January. Dortmund, despite reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, are struggling domestically.
Currently eighth in the Bundesliga, they have lost seven of their 13 league matches in 2025, making it increasingly unlikely they will secure a spot in next season’s Champions League — unless they can overcome Barcelona in their upcoming quarter-final tie and ultimately win the competition.
Sky Germany reports that Gittens has informed Dortmund of his desire to leave, and he is planning the next chapter of his career.
Once valued at around €100m (£83m), Gittens is now expected to be available for significantly less in the summer.
His contract contains a release clause, which becomes active this summer, though the exact value remains undisclosed.
Dortmund’s willingness to sell is influenced by their financial situation, particularly the potential loss of earnings from failing to qualify for the Champions League next season – a scenario that has often forced other clubs to sell their prized assets.
Bayern Munich, notorious for poaching Dortmund’s best players, are also reportedly keeping tabs on Gittens’ situation.
However, it is not certain whether the former Reading and Manchester City academy star will leave the club.
Gittens’ chances of moving will be bolstered if he can regain a starting spot in Dortmund’s lineup, allowing clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal – the two sides most heavily linked with him – further opportunity to assess his talents.
Chelsea, in particular, could be persuaded to move for Gittens, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Mykhailo Mudryk, who is provisionally suspended due to a failed drugs test, and Jadon Sancho, whom the club may consider paying not to sign permanently from Manchester United.
While Gittens would provide valuable attacking options, both Chelsea and Arsenal are more urgently in need of a central striker – a position the 5’9″ winger, who excels on both flanks, is not equipped to fill.
