Jeremie Frimpong ‘Open’ to Liverpool Move

Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly open to a summer move to Liverpool, according to renowned journalist David Ornstein. The 24-year-old could be a key target for the Reds as they prepare for life after Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has informed the club of his intention to leave when his contract expires in June.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Ornstein revealed:

“If they went in for something different, something more multi-faceted, there are players potentially on the market like Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen. He has a £30 million release clause, something in that region, as I understand. I also believe that he would be keen on a move to Liverpool, if they decide to go down that route.”

Frimpong has long been linked with a move to Anfield, and his attacking prowess from the right-back position makes him a compelling option. Since joining Leverkusen in 2021, he has racked up an impressive 28 goals and 35 assists in 142 appearances under Xabi Alonso, helping the club to domestic and European success.

The Dutch international featured at Anfield earlier this season in the Champions League, where Liverpool handed Leverkusen a 4-0 defeat. After the match, Frimpong praised the atmosphere, saying:

“Anfield is a beautiful place to come. We’re disappointed with the result, obviously, but credit to Liverpool. They’re the best side in Europe currently.”

While replacing Alexander-Arnold’s creativity and influence will be no easy task, Frimpong’s attacking output and versatility could offer a new dynamic to Arne Slot’s system. The incoming Liverpool manager is expected to be backed in the transfer market as the club looks to defend its Premier League title next season.

Ornstein also mentioned other options the Reds might consider:

“They will have other options as well, but Frimpong has been mentioned in a number of reports so far. They also believe in Conor Bradley as a long-term right-back for the club if he keeps up his progress.”

Bradley has impressed when called upon, and Joe Gomez remains a reliable utility option. However, neither has matched Frimpong’s goal contributions, which could be a decisive factor in Liverpool’s recruitment strategy.

With a busy summer at Liverpool’s AXA Training Center looking increasingly likely, Frimpong’s potential arrival could mark the beginning of a new era under Slot—one that would look to build on from an impressive first campaign.

Should Liverpool sign Frimpong, he would join a growing Dutch contingent at the club. He could link up with national team captain Virgil van Dijk, as well as teammates Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch influence extends beyond the pitch, too, with a plethora of the backroom staff and new head coach Arne Slot all hailing from the Netherlands.
