Jurgen Klopp confirms new job

The German stepped down as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024 and has repeatedly insisted since then that he had no desire to return to coaching

Jurgen Klopp has disclosed that he is returning to the sidelines in a teasing video confirming his next job.

The German stepped down as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024 and has repeatedly insisted since then that he had no desire to return to coaching.

The 58-year-old made his first move back into football in January 2025, joining the Red Bull group in a consultancy position as their new Head of Global Football.

Last month, it was also announced that he had taken up a role with the German Football League (DFL), joining an expert panel tasked with improving the domestic game.

However, Jurgen Klopp has now confirmed his next step, announcing that he will serve as a pundit for Magenta TV during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

In a video posted on social media on Friday morning, the former Liverpool boss playfully hinted at a return to the dugout before revealing his true assignment.

“Many of you have always known better,” he said in a voiceover alongside footage of him walking around a stadium. “But I truly couldn’t envision it for myself.

“Going back to the sideline? I don’t miss anything. This is what I always thought. But now it is tingling again.

“Grass underneath my feet. The heated atmosphere in the stadium. And I want to be really close again.”

Addressing the camera, Klopp once again dismissed the idea of resuming his managerial career.

“Oh? No, not as a manager,” he clarified. “I am becoming a pundit for Magenta TV at the FIFA World Cup 2026.”

The video also showed Klopp video-calling German television host and journalist Johannes B. Kerner.

“Hi Johannes,” he started. “I’m in! See you on June 11 in Mexico! Cool sentence.

“Except for Indiana Jones, probably nobody can say it.”

In the caption accompanying the post, he added to the suspense, writing: “Grass underfoot, stadium atmosphere, very close! Back to the sideline, I’m looking forward to it!”
