Leny Yoro hands Manchester United injury boost after returning to training

Leny Yoro has returned to full training at Manchester United for the first time in over three months, following a broken metatarsal injury sustained during the pre-season tour.

The French defender was welcomed back by his teammates at Carrington on Wednesday morning, with a special moment where he ran through a corridor of players who patted him on the head as a gesture of support.

Yoro is expected to remain unavailable for selection until after the international break.

By then, new head coach Ruben Amorim is likely to have settled into his role as Erik ten Hag’s successor.

The 18-year-old never made a competitive appearance under Ten Hag, despite being the Dutchman’s most expensive signing of the summer transfer window – joining from Lille for a fee that could rise to £59million.

The injury occurred during United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles at the end of July.

Leny Yoro, who had made his debut against Rangers in Edinburgh, lasted less than 30 minutes in the game at SoFi Stadium before being forced off with the injury.

He remained with the squad for the remainder of the pre-season tour, despite using crutches and a protective boot. After returning to England, he underwent surgery.

Yoro’s return comes at a pivotal time, with Amorim’s appointment fueling expectations that he will implement a 3-4-3 formation at United.

The talented defender is seen as one of the players who could thrive in a three-at-the-back system, aligning with the manager’s tactical preferences.

Yoro wasn’t the only player to return to training at Carrington ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with PAOK Salonika at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen, who missed the last two games, was back on the pitch alongside Antony, who had been sidelined after suffering an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw with Fenerbahce in Istanbul two weeks ago. Additionally,

Mason Mount trained with the group for the first time this week, as he continues his recovery from a recent injury.
