Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has reportedly turned down approaches from both Arsenal and Liverpool in favour of extending his contract with the Bundesliga giants.
Sané’s current deal was set to expire this summer, and earlier in the season, there were claims that Bayern, keen to part ways with at least one of their wingers, could let him go due to his struggle to secure a regular spot in Vincent Kompany’s starting lineup.
With the player available for transfer, interest from several clubs emerged, including Arsenal, where manager Mikel Arteta, who previously worked with Sané at Manchester City, had reportedly made him a target.
Manchester United were also linked, and reports of Liverpool’s interest surfaced earlier this year.
However, despite the interest, Sane is said to have agreed to a contract extension with Bayern.
According to Christian Falk, the winger has rejected offers from both Arsenal and Liverpool to commit his future to the Bundesliga champions-elect until 2028.
Sane is believed to have taken a significant pay cut to stay with Bayern, with teammates Harry Kane and close friend Jamal Musiala reportedly playing a part behind the scenes in advocating for his contract extension.
Under Kompany’s management, Sané has started 16 Bundesliga matches this season, in addition to 11 appearances off the bench.
He has contributed 10 goals and 5 assists, with most of his production coming in 2025 after establishing himself as a key figure in Kompany’s side.
Sane’s recent form would have been a huge boost for both Arsenal and Liverpool, who are both seeking attacking reinforcements.
The prospect of signing a player of his calibre on a free transfer was understandably appealing for the Premier League’s top two clubs.
Now that Sane has committed to Bayern, Arsenal are reportedly turning their attention to Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, while Liverpool’s focus has shifted to signing a central striker following Mohamed Salah’s decision to end the uncertainty around his future by signing a new contract at Anfield.
