Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly set to battle for the signature of Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old Colombian has enjoyed a prolific campaign in Portugal since his €25m move from Almeria in 2025, stepping into the void left by Viktor Gyokeres.
According to reports from Correio da Manhã, both Premier League clubs are closely monitoring his situation, with a significant release clause likely to demand a major financial commitment.
Suarez has been in outstanding form this season, registering 33 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
That includes 24 goals in 25 league matches and five in 10 Champions League outings, underlining his rise as one of Europe’s most clinical forwards. His performances have also cemented his place as a regular starter for Colombia.
Despite the growing interest, Sporting remain in a strong position. Suarez is under contract until 2030, and the club are under no immediate pressure to sell.
However, the striker is believed to be open to a move to the Premier League, with the English top flight seen as a natural next step in his career.
There are, however, some reservations. Prior to his move to Lisbon, Suarez’s record in Spain was modest, with just 23 goals in 100 La Liga appearances.
As a result, clubs are weighing whether his current form represents a genuine step up or is influenced by the Portuguese system.
Sporting are expected to hold firm on their valuation, potentially around €80m, though a deal closer to €60m could be negotiated. The club are also prepared to delay discussions until after the World Cup, hoping his value will increase further.
A key test awaits in the Champions League quarter-finals, where Sporting face Arsenal.
The tie presents Suarez with an opportunity to prove himself against elite opposition – performances that could ultimately convince Liverpool or Newcastle to make their move.
