According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are both in talks to sign Yan Diomande, with a transfer battle now underway.

The deal will depend on Diomande’s preferred project, as well as RB Leipzig’s valuation, which is expected to exceed €100m.

Leipzig had hoped to convince the forward to stay by offering a new contract, improved salary and a release clause, but the player remains open to leaving this summer.

If Diomande joins PSG, Liverpool are expected to keep Bradley Barcola high on their shortlist for the summer transfer window.

Yan Diomande has emerged as Liverpool’s top target as they look to strengthen their attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s departure.

While replacing the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all time will be a huge challenge, Liverpool are expected to spread the attacking responsibility across the forward line.

Diomande, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Germany, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions for RB Leipzig.

Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United are also among the options being considered.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has said “at least one” winger is needed as he looks to help the club rediscover the form that delivered the Premier League title in his first season.

Slot said: “One of the reasons why everyone is talking about wingers is because Mo is leaving. It makes complete sense to think about at least one.

“I think last season gives you the answer because of how important our wingers were to our success last season. They were scoring goals, providing goals, so they were a vital part of us winning the league last season and, in general in football, you see more and more focus on wingers.”

Arne Slot believes the right winger can help bring the best out of Alexander Isak after the striker endured a difficult start to his Liverpool career, while also improving the team as a whole.

Slot admitted that none of Liverpool’s players managed to reach the standards they set during the 2024-25 campaign and hopes new additions can help the club rediscover that level next season.

“Last season, one of the reasons why we were so difficult to play against was because we had threats over on the right side, on the left side,” Slot added. “It was not only the wingers, it is the combination between the winger and the full-back.

“Last season I think if you had to describe the style of play I would describe it as very reliant on the winger-full-back combinations.

“We have tried that this season again but there hasn’t been the end product that we had last season. That is not to say it is only about them. We all – me included – didn’t bring the same level.”
