Liverpool complete signing of Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia

Liverpool have finalised the signing of Armin Pecsi from Hungarian top-flight side Puskas Akademia.

The deal could reach £1.5million, marking a club record fee for the Hungarian team, and is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper completed his move to Anfield after passing a medical and signing his contract at the AXA Training Centre.

Born in Austria, Pecsi has been a key player for Puskas Akademia this season, making 36 appearances across all competitions.

The team finished second in the Hungarian league behind Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros.

Pecsi also featured in the early rounds of the Europa Conference League, where Puskas Akademia were eliminated by eventual semi-finalists Fiorentina in the final qualifying round.

An Hungary Under-21 international, Pecsi’s impressive performances have earned him a nomination for the 2025 Golden Boy award.

The young goalkeeper will initially be available for Liverpool’s U21 side, with his development expected to benefit from regular training alongside the first-team goalkeeping squad.

Liverpool have already made significant changes in their goalkeeping department this summer, including the £29million signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, a deal agreed upon last summer.

Meanwhile, long-serving goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher moved to Brentford in a deal worth up to £18 million earlier this month.

A decision is yet to be made on Czech international Vitezslav Jaros, who has featured twice for Liverpool’s first team this season.

The 21-year-old has one year left on his contract and could sign an extension before potentially going out on loan.

Additionally, Liverpool are expected to soon confirm a new contract for 21-year-old goalkeeper Harvey Davies.

With the signings of Frimpong and Pecsi secured, Liverpool remain in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a club-record deal for German midfielder Florian Wirtz.

The Reds’ latest offer for the 21-year-old reportedly totals up to £113 million, including add-ons.
