Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to undergo a scan on Monday to determine the severity of the thigh injury that forced him off during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The vice-captain pulled up midway through the second half at the Vitality Stadium and was replaced by Conor Bradley.
Reds boss Arne Slot confirmed in his post-match press conference that Trent Alexander-Arnold had requested to be substituted to avoid aggravating the issue further.
Liverpool had Sunday off following their trip to the south coast, so Alexander-Arnold has not yet undergone any tests to assess the extent of the injury.
However, there is optimism that the England international won’t face a prolonged absence, with more clarity expected after Monday’s scan.
Slot admitted it would be a surprise if Alexander-Arnold is declared fit for Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The Dutchman told his post-match press conference: “The situation was that he said to me, ‘You have to take me off’ and he sat on the floor and we took him off.
“He felt something, I can’t tell you exactly what and how bad it is of course because we are one hour after the game, but it is never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution.
“This is not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday, but let’s hope he is back with us as soon as possible.”
Liverpool won’t return to Premier League action until February 12, when they travel to Everton for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold is an injury doubt for Thursday’s game against Spurs, he was always unlikely to feature in the fourth-round FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday afternoon
