Liverpool identify Jeremie Frimpong as leading candidate to replace Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool remain keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to recent reports.

The Reds were left stunned earlier this month after Alexander-Arnold confirmed he would depart the club on a free transfer when his contract expires, with Real Madrid set to finalise his signing in the coming weeks.

His exit will create a significant void in Liverpool’s defense.

While manager Arne Slot seems to be placing trust in academy graduate Conor Bradley to step up, Liverpool may still turn to the transfer market to bolster their squad.

Frimpong, who has long been linked with a move to Anfield, continues to be on Liverpool’s radar as the summer transfer window approaches.

According to The Times, the Dutch full-back remains a top target.

The 24-year-old has a release clause reportedly valued at around £30million, which has piqued the interest of several clubs across Europe.

While this fee is considered affordable for Liverpool, the Reds are believed to have other priorities this summer.

Strengthening the attacking options with a new striker is their primary focus, and this is expected to take up a large portion of their transfer budget.

Additionally, Liverpool are thought to be targeting a new centre-back, and these priorities are likely to come before any move for a new right-back.

Alongside Bradley, Liverpool have versatile defenders Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah available as cover.

However, both natural centre-backs have been linked with potential moves away from the club.

If one of them departs, it could prompt Liverpool to accelerate their pursuit of a right-back.
