Liverpool are reportedly ready to lower their asking price for Curtis Jones as Inter Milan prepare another approach for the midfielder.
Inter have made several unsuccessful bids, with Liverpool previously holding out for €40million (£34.2m).
However, Fabrizio Romano reports that the Reds have now “slightly lowered their request”, with a deal potentially possible for around €35 million (£29.9m).
“After several failed attempts, because Liverpool always asked for €40 million, Liverpool as far as I understand have slightly lowered their request,” Romano explained on YouTube.
“The feeling from those close to the operation is that Jones could be unlocked for around €35 million. And this is new, because in these types of deals even these small financial margins can make a difference.
“Inter are negotiating, working and they will make an offer in the coming hours.”
The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, making the reduced asking price a relatively small loss for Liverpool. Jones missed Sunday’s 3-2 pre-season defeat to Monaco due to a hip issue.
“It doesn’t look anything big but it didn’t make any sense to risk,” Andoni Iraola told LFCTV after the game.
Liverpool have been reluctant sellers when it comes to Jones, but his omission only raised further questions amid growing speculation over a move to Inter Milan.
Curtis Jones made a career-high 49 appearances last season but started just 28 games. With his contract entering its final year and his place in midfield uncertain, he has explored his options, attracting interest from Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
If Jones leaves, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will sign a replacement. The Reds were previously linked with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
Mamadou Sangare was another target but has since joined Brentford from Lens, while Monaco’s Lamine Camara is now attracting interest from Palace.
