Liverpool are set to submit a £130million bid to Newcastle United for Alexander Isak in the coming hours, according to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri.
Newcastle, with Eddie Howe’s approval, have informed both Alexander Isak’s representatives and Liverpool’s board that a deal could now be agreed, following the club’s securing of his replacement, Nick Woltemade.
Isak held talks with Newcastle United’s owners on Monday as they attempted, unsuccessfully, to persuade him to reconsider his desire to leave the club.
The Swedish striker was absent from St James’ Park as Newcastle suffered a 3-2 defeat to suitors Liverpool, though he remained in the northeast.
According to widespread reports, a meeting was held at Isak’s home in Northumberland, attended by co-owner Jamie Reuben and a representative of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Their aim was to convince the 25-year-old to soften his stance, recommit to the club, and reintegrate with Eddie Howe’s squad.
The talks were unsuccessful, with Isak reiterating his wish to depart and join Liverpool.
Liverpool’s last formal approach for the forward came over three weeks ago, when their £110million bid was rejected at the start of August.
While their interest remains strong, Newcastle were unwilling to sanction a sale without first securing replacements – not only for Isak but also for Callum Wilson, who has already departed.
So far, attempts to bring in reinforcements have proved unsuccessful despite advances for Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.
