According to Sky Sports, Scans are expected to confirm that Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has suffered a broken leg.

Liverpool and Isak are awaiting the results of an MRI scan after the injury he sustained while scoring the opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven slid in as Isak shot, and the striker immediately signalled for medical attention.

Although a stretcher was brought on, Isak was able to leave the pitch with assistance from Liverpool’s medical staff.

The Sweden international had already missed five games earlier this season with a groin injury, and this latest setback further disrupts his start to life at Anfield following his £125m move from Newcastle.

Alexander Isak has scored three goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.

Speaking immediately after the game, head coach Arne Slot told Sky Sports: “It’s difficult to know what he exactly has.

“But it’s never a nice thing that after the goal he collided with their defender.

“Hopefully he’s fine, but we have to wait and see.”

Earlier this summer, Isak was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia with what the club described as a “minor thigh injury,” amid speculation over his future.

He later trained alone at former club Real Sociedad before joining Liverpool on deadline day.

Arriving without a full pre-season, Isak has struggled for match fitness and has started just 10 games in all competitions.

Liverpool are also without Mohamed Salah, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, and the injured Cody Gakpo.

Summer signing Hugo Ekitike is expected to continue leading the line after scoring at Spurs.

The 23-year-old has netted 11 goals this season, including five in his last three league games, which contributed to Isak starting on the bench.
