Manchester City have reportedly identified Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara as one of their primary summer transfer targets.
With a midfield overhaul expected at the Etihad, City are planning significant changes as they prepare for the departure of several key players.
Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave the club on a free transfer after City opted not to extend his contract.
Uncertainty also surrounds the future of Bernardo Silva, while manager Pep Guardiola has refused to confirm whether Ilkay Gundogan will remain at the club, despite a one-year extension being triggered in his deal.
According to Foot Mercato, City have expressed strong interest in 25-year-old Gabriel Sara, who has impressed in his debut season with Galatasaray.
The report claims the Premier League champions have already made contact with the Brazilian’s representatives and view him as a key target.
Brazilian outlet UOL, however, notes that City’s approach has so far been limited to an enquiry.
Sara has prior experience in English football, having joined Norwich City in the summer of 2022.
During his time there, he made 96 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 17 assists.
He joined Galatasaray last summer for a reported fee between £15million and £20million, and has quickly made an impact in Turkey.
His contributions – two goals and seven assists – have helped Galatasaray maintain their position at the top of the Super Lig.
A dynamic, box-to-box midfielder, Sara is known for his energy and work rate – attributes that Guardiola has admitted his ageing squad have lacked this season.
It remains to be seen whether City will step up their pursuit of Sara.
While no transfer fee has been mentioned, the Brazilian would likely cost significantly less than other names linked with the club.
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is reportedly a dream target but would command a fee in the region of €150million (£127.7m), while Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson could also come at a high price.
