Manchester United’s pursuit of a new striker this summer appears to be broadening, with the club reportedly exploring options beyond long-linked targets such as Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap.
Gyokeres, who has netted an astonishing 52 goals for Sporting CP this season, is arguably the most talked-about forward on the market.
With Sporting boss Rúben Amorim also now based in Manchester, the Swedish international is an obvious target, though United will face fierce competition for his signature.
Delap, meanwhile, is available for a fixed £30million following Ipswich Town’s relegation.
However, the 21-year-old remains a raw and unpolished talent, representing a very different profile from Gyökeres and is seen as more of a long-term project.
One surprising name now emerging on United’s radar is Moise Kean.
The Italian forward has not previously been linked with the Red Devils but has reignited his career at Fiorentina since joining the club last summer.
Only Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui (24 goals) has outscored Kean (17) in Serie A this season.
According to Foot Mercato, United have added the 25-year-old to their shortlist of striker options.
Once touted as a future superstar after making his Juventus debut at just 16, Kean struggled to find his footing during spells at Everton and Paris Saint-Germain.
His ill-fated 2019/20 stint with Everton, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, stalled his development, but he now appears to be fulfilling his early promise in Florence.
Kean reportedly has a €50million (£42.5m) release clause in his Fiorentina contract, active during the first two weeks of July.
Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring him closely, while Barcelona have shown interest in the recent past.
For United, Kean represents a potential middle-ground option – more proven than Delap, yet more affordable than Gyökeres – particularly if they fail to secure Champions League qualification via Europa League success later this month.
Still, if United do secure a Champions League berth, Gyokeres may become a more realistic option.
Another high-profile name remains on the table: Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen’s career has taken a curious turn since firing Napoli to the Serie A title in 2022/23.
After falling out with the club, the Nigerian striker surprisingly spent this season on loan at Galatasaray, despite previous links to the Saudi Pro League.
The 25-year-old has been prolific in Turkey, scoring 33 goals in all competitions – his best-ever return in a single season.
Foot Mercato reports that United officials have recently held talks with his representatives. Osimhen is said to be “very interested” in a move to Old Trafford.
However, any deal would come at a steep price, with a reported asking fee of up to €75million (£64m).
That figure would represent a significant investment, particularly after earlier reports suggested United had cooled their interest due to wage demands and concerns about whether Osimhen’s personality aligns with the club’s long-term vision.
