Manchester United have made an initial approach for Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres, according to Sky Sports News.
The Red Devils are currently exploring the terms of a potential deal for the 27-year-old forward.
Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim, who managed Gyokeres, is a big admirer of the striker.
Gyokeres reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting this summer for offers exceeding £58million (€70million), despite a release clause set at around £84million (€100million).
Gyokeres had an exceptional season, scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances for the Portuguese champions, including a memorable hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.
In the 2023/24 campaign, he netted 43 times in 50 games.
Man United remain in the market for a striker regardless of Rasmus Hojlund’s future.
Although the Danish international has stated he is not considering leaving and is committed to fighting for his place next season, United are still exploring options for players in the No. 9 role.
This comes alongside the recent signing of Matheus Cunha and the potential arrival of Bryan Mbeumo.
While recruitment is a priority, United are also focusing on departures.
Offers are expected for players including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony.
The club prefer permanent sales but remains open to loan deals. Despite considerable interest, no formal offers have been made so far.
